Exceedingly Hospitable
Emil’s
This is Emil (A-mil not Eh-meel). When he was little, his mom made hooch during the prohibition. His job was putting the caps on the bottle. He ran an entire army mess hall. He taught us to put strong black coffee in gravy because, well, he was just a baller like that. We called him Papa. His legacy lives on.
Emil’s is a self-pour taproom and coffee shop in the heart of downtown Augusta. While designing this identity we took to heart what Emil Claeys stood for. He was a kind man known both for his sense of wry humor and his endless generosity. While we wanted to maintain some of the irreverence, we were always pushed to “make it more elegant” by his grandaughter Emilie - the proprietor of this new concept.
